The Heart Gallery Returns June 26

Hello Hauties!

I am proud to inform you that Jersey's own The Heart Gallery will be returning Sunday, June 26th. The Heart Gallery is an exhibition of cultural art, including music, fashion, live art, and poetry. I really missed this event during their hiatus, because it's not often you find culturally savvy events in New Jersey.

If you're in the Tri State area I would definitely suggest you come out!

Speak the Word x MSU

On November 18th my homie Alicia hosted an open mic even at MSU called 'Speak the Word'. I was extremely impressed with the raw talent that performed that night, from poetry to comedy, rap to acoustic guitar. She did such a great job, it was well put together, I really applaud her for such a wonderful event!

Here are some of my favorite lines from the night (posted on my twitter of course ;) lol)

- 'human eyes don't come with rear view mirrors; you have to focus on your future to see past your present'
- 'the radio plays our relationship on repeat'
- 'loving you is an emotional contradiction'

Happy 50th Bday Nigeria!

On Saturday East Coast Nigerians celebrated our wonderful country's 50th Bday in NYC. The celebration included a parade, but of course running on cp time I missed that, however I was able to make the festival on 47th street. Overall it was fun, I love being able to celebrate my culture with my fellow Naijas. Being surrounded by Nigerian food, music, artists, tradition, and people gave me LIFE. What really inspired me was the African fashion. I CANNOT get enough of African prints and material incorporated into fashion forward pieces! I was able to network with some African designers, so look out for feature posts soon ;)

Fab x Miguel x DJ Kast One x MSU Homecoming

Let me start off by saying I've missed the blogger world so much! lol. I've been tied up with school, tests, MCAT studies, and just life as I know it :( The sooner I learn to utilize my time instead of wasting it, I'll be able to blog as much as my little chocolate heart desires! lol

This past weekend was Homecoming at MSU, and I'm probably right when I say it was the best one yet! Even after the Nicki Minaj scam (a fake booking agency scammed us out of $35k -__-) we were able to bounce back and have DJ Kast One, Miguel, and Fabolous perform for our concert.

First up was Miguel, and he seemed like a really sweet and down to earth individual. From his harem pants to his exotic features to his beautiful voice, Miguel was a treat! I will definitely be on the lookout for his upcoming projects.

The main event, Fab was by far the best thing that has happened to MSU in a while! His performance was the perfect medley of his songs: throwbacks, remixes, and current hits, he did it all! What I loved the most is that he did it for the LADIESSS! He performed all my favorite R&B songs ft Tamia, Lil Mo, etc.

The icing on the cake was the crowd pleaser, DJ Kast One. He played all the right songs to have the whole auditorium feeling like the best party you've been to in a while. I don't know if I've ever seen MSU that live. If we can keep up the momentum, this will undoubtedly by a great year in Red Hawk Country.

The Heart Gallery

On Sunday night my friend Jihanne introduced me to a really dope event in Jersey. ‘The Heart Gallery’ is a coalition of poets, lyricists, vocalists, and artists. They had an ‘art in action’ mentality, determined to come together as creative minds & challenge the potential of our generation. I loved the overall vibe; I was particularly impressed by the artist who finished a live painting. Wine tasting, art, poetry, & sexy decor all set the scene for a nice chill evening in downtown Montclair.

It occurs the last Sunday of every month, I definitely plan on supporting their movement.
